This 3" tall two-tone satin ornament tells the story of the Christmas customs of Ukraine. Crafted of glass exclusively for Bronner's from Hungary, our Ukrainian Christmas custom ornament is sure to be a fun and enlightening conversation piece for years to come!
Custom on the back of the ornament reads:
Ukrainian Christmas is on January 7. A sheaf of wheat saved from summer's harvest is decorated and placed in a corner under an icon. The first star in the sky signals Christmas. On Christmas Eve a twelve course meatless dinner is served, one course in memory of each apostle. The first course, Kutia, is made of wheat (representing straw in the manger) and honey (symbolizing the Infant). Children later receive gifts of nuts and apples. At midnight the family attends Divine Liturgy. Christmas extends for three days. Carolers go from house-to-house singing special songs (koliadky) about Christ's birth and life. A star-bearer walks with them, carrying a symbol of the star of Bethlehem.
