 | Like many Christmas traditions, glass Christmas ornaments originate in Germany. Germans in the 1500’s developed a new "blowpipe" as a way to use fire and their breath to "blow" glass into various shapes. These new, unique glass shapes soon became popular adornments for Christmas trees, and in the 1860s, glass blowing expanded to include delicate ornaments made from glass molds. German immigrants carried the glass ornament tradition to the United States and by the mid-1880s, families all over the world were trimming their trees with German-made glass ornaments. Today, Christmas ornaments are manufactured in virtually every country, crafted in a variety of materials, and feature countless themes. Bronner’s has over 6,000 Christmas ornaments, many crafted of glass in the hundreds’ years old European ornament-making tradition. Italy, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic are just a few of the countries that are prominently displayed in the ornament section of our store.
